Why ads don't convert

Last updated:

Ads don't convert when the landing page breaks the arriving promise. High CPA is usually a landing problem first, not a bid problem. The click may come from an ad, a search snippet, or an AI Overview citation — the fold still has to finish that job. Diagnose landing first. If they bought a free grade and the fold asks someone to book a tour, you purchased a bait-and-switch — even if the product is honest. Fix the public URL visitors actually hit before you raise targets. SiteRevenue scores that page. We do not ingest Google Ads. This is not Ads OAuth. Sample · free grade.

The playbook is message match. The dated argument is Message match is the real ad waste. This page is the evergreen comparison: auction-first vs landing-first.

Comparison table

A paid visitor does not owe you a second interpretation. Continuity is a courtesy: the job that earned the click is still the job on the fold, the button, and the ask. It is not a request to clone the ad word-for-word.

Common gotchas

  • Starting in the auction because that room has hourly numbers. Bid systems cannot apologize for a page. They can only spend.
  • New creative, old URL. Media ships a comparison angle. The landing still sells last quarter’s feature list. Quality Score takes the blame because that is where the pain is visible.
  • Tailored ad, generic fold. Dynamic keyword insertion writes an audience, geo, or competitor the template never says.
  • Form eyebrow switches the job (“Book a product tour” under a “free leak score” hero).
  • Assuming we scraped your Google Ads account. We did not. There is no Ads login, no bid tool. Optional home-form fields are notes for the model — not an ads ingest. Optional ad or email copy you paste on the home form is notes for the model; that is still not Ads OAuth and not a Google Ads login. Full reports may fetch competitor URLs you typed; teasers do not.
  • A/B testing button color while the H1 and the keyword describe two jobs.
  • Treating a Lighthouse 100 as match. Speed is not continuity — Lighthouse vs a conversion audit.
  • Empty re-audit after only the ad moved. Fix the page or the creative first.

Those are hero, CTA, offer, and form problems that happen to be paid for with media money. Hand pass: checklist Match.

How SiteRevenue differs

A lot of tools imply they will ingest the campaign and tell you why ads don't convert. That pitch keeps the diagnosis inside the system the media buyer already trusts. It is also how you skip the page.

SiteRevenue is landing-first on purpose:

  • Paste the URL visitors actually hit (campaign landing page, not only the corporate homepage).
  • Optional desired outcome and competitor URLs frame the job. They are not an ads ingest. Full jobs fetch those public rival pages (fail-open, max three).
  • A full report may include a Message Match dimension (0–10, higher = healthier) or a panel after findings. The panel is omit-safe — if the job did not return match data, the UI will not invent an ad.
  • Live teasers omit the panel. Do not treat three teaser titles as a match audit.
  • New full jobs emit Message match when the model has a paid-intent signal; they omit the row when message_match is null. Older jobs stay omit-safe and may fold match notes into Offer Clarity.
  • Unlocking starts a new capture. It does not reuse the teaser scrape.

We will not pretend we pulled impression share. If you need search terms, that lives in your ads UI. If match required an account connect, operators would wait on IT and keep raising bids in the meantime.

The sample shows an illustrative Message Match panel so you can judge layout — not a live campaign ingest, not a case study. How to ship the fold this week lives in the message match playbook.

Public pages only. Not a chatbot. Not financial advice. Not a promised lift from “better continuity.” Continuity is how you stop paying for the argument. Agent jobs poll; webhooks are later. The cash path does not need an API key.

Start with a free grade

Paste the landing URL you pay for, plus optional outcome or competitor URLs, on the home page. No card. See the sample Message Match panel, then unlock the $19 page file if the titles hit match, hero, or form. If the leak is the next step, paste that public URL on the home form. Pricing.
